Earlier this month I attended a two day workshop hosted by
LIGHTENUPANDSHOOT. It was one of the best photography investments I’ve made so far. The weekend was truly inspiring and it really tweaked the way I think about photography, challenging the
way I shoot and
why I shoot.
Besides making several new photographer friends from the DFW area, I was privileged to spend several weekends outside the workshop shooting with
Mikey Thompson. Mikey is an international commercial and fashion photographer who has shot for likes of
Tropicana and
Under Armour. He splits his time between Columbia and Florida and truly has a passion for keeping photography simple. Mikey is also the co-founder of Lightenupandshoot.com and is an incredible street photographer. Besides all that he is a great teacher… and incredibly generous with his time.
So, I’ve posted a few shots from our workshop weekend at
Sundance Square, Cedar Hill and the
Bishop Arts District. as well as some images from my time with Mikey on the streets of the
Fort Worth Stockyards and
Deep Ellum. A couple of the models are photographers but most were just folks from the streets of Fort Worth/Dallas. It’s invigorating to connect with strangers who somehow become friends in a matter of minutes. Everyone is excited to model once they see the final product!
Lightenupandshoot is currently in Hong Kong for their summer workshop tour and will be taking it to Malaysia, Singapore, Canada and London. Also, check them out in July (2011) on creativeLIVE, where their three day workshop on street photography will be broadcast live.
